Lars Ulrich Lars Ulrich says front man James Hetfield has some brilliant new riffs

Metallica are set to re-enter the studio in September to begin work on a new album.

Drummer Lars Ulrich said that after finishing their 3D movie and playing a US festival "we're gonna basically just concentrate on new music and try to get another Metallica record [done]".

He said the band were "itching" to begin and had some "brilliant riffs" to work with.

Their last album, Death Magnetic, came out in 2008.

In a conference call with reporters, Ulrich said front man James Hetfield was coming up with some great ideas.

"Every time [he] picks up a guitar there's some brilliant riff that comes out of him.

"I try to make sure that they're all recorded and try to do my best to keep up with them and try to put some drums behind them."

Speaking about the 3D film, Ulrich said the band would film live footage during concerts in Vancouver on 24 and 25 August.

Extra scenes will then be shot in the week after the gigs but won't feature any members of the band.

"It's a split narrative that kind of runs parallel to the concert," said Lars Ulrich.

The film's expected to come out in 2013.

Diet of goals feeds ‘fat lad’ Jamie Reed (From York Press) - The Press in York

Diet of goals feeds ‘fat lad’ Jamie Reed

JAMIE REED has laughed off the fat boy tag as he builds up for another promotion battle with York City – but does want to put extra weight on his goal tally.

The striker has dismissed setting specific goal targets for 2012/13 after a season in which he fell short of his personal aims despite playing his part as the team achieved the ultimate ambition of winning a place back in the Football League.

But he is looking forward to making a good contribution, and topping his 12-goal tally of last term, as the Minstermen seek a second successive rise up the tiers.

Reed found the net in the midweek friendly at Gateshead ahead of City’s next outing at Grantham tomorrow.

“I’ve had targets before but I’m going into this season open-minded,” he said, having set a 30-goal objective 12 months ago. “I set myself a ridiculous target last year and didn’t make it, though I was hoping I’d be playing every game.

“I’ll see what happens this year and take whatever comes my way, and if I beat last year’s goal tally then I will be happy.”

The 24-year-old was speaking during special health checks at Bootham Crescent carried out by an expert team of practitioners sent by new shirt sponsors Benenden Healthcare.

The players were tested for blood sugars, cholesterol levels, blood pressure, heart strength and body fat, and results, perhaps surprisingly to some, showed that bulky striker Reed’s body fat ratio was exactly the same as slimline flying forward Matty Blair .

“I’m very happy with my results – quite impressed really. Everyone thinks I’m the fat guy but not any more,” joked Reed.

“I’ve worked hard in pre-season but I do that every year. I think it’s just the way I look in a kit.”

Half of Reed’s 42 outings last term came off the bench and, while he did not mind a “super-sub” label, he now wants to win a starting role more often.

“I think that’s everyone’s aim,” said the former Bangor hot-shot.

“I got myself a few goals last season and ended up totalling up quite a few appearances but you want to play as many games as you can and I’m no different. The team as a whole did brilliantly, though, and we’re a squad.”

That squad could yet be bolstered by Dominic Knowles, who has been released by Burnley and could provide Reed with more competition up front should he be offered a contract.

“That’s up to the manager. He did well on Tuesday and got himself a goal,” said Reed.

“Anything that’s going to make the squad better is good for the club. It gives the manager more of a headache on a Friday afternoon.”

He added: “Pre-season has so far gone well. From a personal point I feel sharp and as a team we’ve won all our games apart from Oldham which was a bit disappointing but it’s not about results, it’s about fitness and getting up to standard for the first game of the season.

“We’re well on the way and everyone’s going well. We’re all just trying to get in top shape for August 11.”

City kick off their season then at Doncaster in the League Cup first round.

Preparation continues with a training camp in Rutland, which includes a game against Grantham Town tomorrow (3pm).

“It worked well last year so hopefully it’s a good omen and we can have a similar season this time,” said Reed of the Rutland break. “We went there last year and had such a good season so why not do it again.”

As for the health testing, he added: “I’ve had an ECG (heart check) before but this is the first time it’s been organised around the football.

“It’s definitely a good thing. The results give you a base of where you’re at and where you need to get to.”

The Fabrice Muamba incident last season, when the Bolton player nearly died of a heart attack on the pitch, brought health checks back into the spotlight.

Health checks crucial

YORK City physio Jeff Miller – who witnessed at first hand the David Longhurst tragedy at York in 1990 – said: “The importance of these sorts of checks for our players cannot be stressed enough.

“Statistics show at least 12 apparently healthy young people a week die of undiagnosed cardiac-related abnormalities.

“For our players, who are athletes performing at the highest levels, it is essential we know they are safe and not putting themselves at any sort of risk.”

When we saw the photos of Jamie with the F.A Trophy on the way home from Wembley everybody near myself commented on how they would like to be "fat" like that!!. Would still love to see Jamie hitting the potential he obviously has got,but to do this he needs a proper run in the side & he might get the "fat" or "not interested" label off his back. Keep plugging away Reedy as there are plenty of us wishing you well sent to coventry

Paul Musselwhite has done really well to lose the weight in pre season. He looks fitter now-impressed and well done Paul. I hear Blinks has been released and is now on trial at Barrow but nothing on YCFC website yet.I'll be chuffed for Reedy if he does beat last seasons tally of goals-it will mean we are doing ok. ian923

He must have lost weight - the Wembley crossbar didn't break when he mounted it at our end, after we had gained promotion!! Let's hope this is going to be a successful and productive season for Reedy, in a City shirt! RooBeck

Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong joins The Voice USA - BBC News
Green Day Billie Joe (centre) says working with Christina is a "lot of fun"

Green Day's front man Billie Joe Armstrong has joined The Voice USA as a mentor for Christina Aguilera's team, according to a tweet from the show.

"Welcome Billie Joe (@BJAofficial) to #TeamXtina! We are ready to rock out in Season 3," said the post.

The singer said he liked the show's approach: "It's not moulding artists, it's just giving them a little bit of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover."

The US show returns on 10 September.

In his statement, Billie Joe Armstrong added that working with Christina Aguilera was proving to be a "lot of fun".

Cee-Lo Green and Adam Levine from Maroon 5 also appear as coaches on the NBC show.

Recording for the upcoming series has been going on since June and Armstrong starting filming on 25 July.

The UK version of The Voice is also coming back for another series, with a spokesperson this week denying it was in trouble.

It had been reported that singer Jessie J and Sir Tom Jones were not signed up for the second series and that only five people had turned up to an early audition.

Green Day, meanwhile, are gearing up for the release of their new triple album, ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡TrĂ©!

The first part is out in the UK on 24 September with the next two available on 12 November and 14 January 2013.

TEXT-Fitch affirms VMG's bonds at 'AAA' - Reuters UK

Fri Jul 27, 2012 12:23pm BST

(The following statement was released by the rating agency)

July 26 - Fitch Ratings has affirmed Vauban Mobilisations Garanties' (VMG) outstanding bonds at 'AAA'. The bonds total EUR3.15bn and have scheduled maturity dates between end-July 2012 and January 2017.

The 'AAA' rating of VMG's bonds is based on Credit Foncier de France's (CFF; 'A+'/Stable/'F1+' ) Long-term Issuer Default Rating (IDR) of 'A+', as CFF acts as the main debtor of recourse for the underlying medium-term notes refinanced through VMG, and a Discontinuity Factor (D-Factor) of 6.5% assigned to VMG's programme. This combination could have allowed VMG's bonds to attain 'AAA' on a probability of default (PD) basis. However, Fitch has limited the maximum PD uplift to 'AA+' in-line with the PD rating of the Obligations Foncieres (OFs) issued by Compagnie de Financement Foncier (CoFF, a Societe de Credit Foncier also set up by CFF) due to the material exposure of VMG towards the CoFF OFs in which VMG has invested as part of the issue redemption reserve. Finally, as per Fitch's covered bonds rating criteria, the 'AAA' rating is further based on outstanding recoveries as calculated by Fitch given a default on the bonds, which allows for a one-notch recovery uplift to 'AAA' from the 'AA+' PD rating of the bonds issued under the programme.

The 'AAA' rating of VMG's bonds may be affected by a downgrade of the 'AAA' rating of the CoFF OFs, and is further linked to the credit quality of the Fonds Commun de Creances (FCC, a special purpose entity established under French law) senior units, which form part of VMG's assets.

The 6.5% D-Factor assigned to VMG's programme is mainly driven by the partial pass-through feature of VMG's bonds in combination with the dynamically calculated reserves to bridge upcoming mismatches that may arise between amounts received on the amortising senior FCC units and amounts due as interest and principal payments on VMG's bonds. No assets are required to be liquidated post an assumed default of the main debtor of recourse. The D-Factor further reflects the satisfactory segregation of the FCC senior units and reserves from the bankruptcy estate of CFF, despite the fact that VMG is not legally immunised against CFF's bankruptcy extension risk, and the feasibility of the programme's transition to an alternative asset manager in case of bank insolvency. It also takes into account the lack of special supervision from the French banking authorities.

VMG's D-Factor also takes into account the absence of hedging agreements, which simplifies the task of the alternative manager after issuer insolvency, and avoids additional liquidity constraints due to potential termination payments to defaulting swap counterparties.

In line with Fitch's covered bonds counterparty criteria, CFF must be replaced as account bank at the loss of 'A' or 'F1' within 30 days of becoming ineligible. In addition, to preserve VMG's ability to pay timely interest on its bonds, even in case of a jump to default of CFF, the remuneration provision, totalling EUR96m as of end-April 2012, is invested with an eligible counterparty outside CFF's banking group.

VMG is a 100% non-bank subsidiary of CFF, which was created in 1997. Its sole purpose is to refinance French residential loans originated by entities of the CFF group, which are first securitised via a FCC. In order to purchase the FCC senior units, VMG benefits from a subordinated loan granted by its parent. In parallel, the proceeds of VMG's bond issuances are on-lent to CFF, in the form of medium-term notes mirroring the term of VMG's bonds. CFF's obligation under the medium-term notes constitutes the primary source of interest and principal payment for VMG's bonds. Consequently, CFF's IDR constitutes a floor for the PD rating of VMG's covered bonds.

Should CFF default on its obligations under the medium term notes, VMG bonds (originally bullet) convert to pass-through, and are redeemed sequentially using the proceeds of the amortising FCC senior units, in combination with the reserves.

As of end-April 2012, VMG's assets comprised the FCC senior units, totalling EUR1.20bn, and the issue redemption reserve, which covers for upcoming mismatches between VMG's bullet bonds and the amortising FCC senior units. Of the EUR1.95bn issue redemption reserve, EUR1.5bn has been invested in CoFF OFs, whereas the remaining EUR447m is invested in an eligible account bank subject to replacement triggers upon downgrade. As this amount of EUR447m is less than what is due on VMG's liabilities over the next 12 months, Fitch does not view this as an excessive exposure to the parent, in-line with its covered bonds counterparty criteria.

All else being equal, VMG's bond ratings could be maintained at 'AAA' provided CFF is rated at least 'BBB-'. However, on 30 May 2012 Fitch published a report entitled "Exposure Draft: Global Covered Bonds Rating Criteria". The report proposes enhancements to the covered bonds rating criteria in order to increase transparency and reflect Fitch's updated views of systemic risk and cover pool liquidity. Fitch anticipates there will be no negative impact on VMG's covered bond ratings if the exposure draft proposals were implemented as proposed.
