Spanish football in mourning for Preciado - UEFA

Spanish football is mourning the death of Manolo Preciado, the former coach of Real Racing Club and Real Sporting de Gijón, who has died aged 54 after suffering a fatal heart attack.

One of the game's most charismatic and best loved characters, Preciado had recently agreed to take up the reins at relegated Villarreal CF following a largely successful five-and-a-half years with Real Sporting de Gijón, whom he led into Spain's top flight. That was one of five promotions achieved by Preciado, who also took Levante UD into the Liga.

Following a playing career that began with Real Racing Club in 1977, Preciado twice coached the Santander side and also had spells in charge at RS Gimnástica de Torrelavega – where he made the transition from player to coach – and Real Murcia CF.

Speaking from Spain's UEFA EURO 2012 base camp in Gniewino, coach Vicente del Bosque said: "It is a shock. We were told the news during breakfast and were all left stunned. Manuel was a footballing man and a fighter who excellently represented the values of our sport."

Hart: Authorities must lead on racism - Football

Published: 07 Jun 2012 - 14:47:43

Goalkeeper Joe Hart said England's response would be led by the match referee and UEFA if any players suffer racial abuse during their Euro 2012 campaign.

Players were warned this week they will be booked if they walk off the pitch after experiencing racism during the tournament. UEFA president Michel Platini confirmed the rule preventing players from leaving the field without the referee's permission would stand - even if they are the victims of abuse from the stands in Poland and Ukraine.

Hart said: "Our advice is to get on with it and see how the referee and UEFA deal with it. It's not for us to do. Hopefully the referee and UEFA will take it into their own hands if that problem does occur."

He went on: "Fingers crossed we won't have to deal with anything like that. It's down to the referee. We can't take rules into our own hands. If the referee feels it's right for us to walk off then we'll follow him."

Hart, who starts the tournament as England's established first-choice goalkeeper, was quick to play down suggestions that expectations of the team should be low.

A rash of injuries to key men including Frank Lampard, Gareth Barry and Gary Cahill have hampered the build-up for manager Roy Hodgson, who only came into the job last month, following Fabio Capello's departure in February.

While hopes at home may be as low as they have been for many years, certainly within the England camp that is not the case, with a team containing several high achievers at club level determined to produce a strong campaign.

Hart said at England's press conference: "We're all hungry guys. We're all successful at football, and that's what we want, we want success.

"We don't want to go there thinking people won't mind if we lose, we can go home, we can go on holiday and no-one will care. We have high expectations otherwise there's no point us being here.

"We've come to win, we've come to do well, we've come to represent our country, and we want to make people proud."

New name of Kerala minister''s official residence sparks row - MSN India

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 7 (PTI) A pro-RSS cultural forum here has taken objection to change of name of Kerala Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb''s official residence from "Ganga" to "Grace".

Rabb, an Indian Union Muslim League nominee in the UDF cabinet, however, said some quarters were trying to create an unnecessary controversy over the issue.

In a statement, RSS ideologue P Parameswaran, Director of Bhartheeya Vichara Kendram, said there was no justification for changing the name of the official residences in accordance with the personal preference of its temporary occupants.

"More important, Ganga is the eternal symbol of Indian culture," he said.

When his comment was sought on Parameswaran''s charge, Rabb told PTI that he was not aware that the name of the house allotted to him was "Ganga".

He said when the Tourism department allotted the residence to him he suggested "Grace" as the name of the house as it is the name of his own home at his native place.

Rabb said it was unfortunate that unnecessary controversies were being generated on issues like this while overlooking the good work he had done in the last one year.

"Nobody wants to know what I have done in the department.
Everybody is after controversies," he said.
