Wranglers foiled in overtime - Las Vegas Review Journal

The ECHL's playoff leader with four game-winning goals, including two in overtime, Wranglers left wing Eric Lampe appeared poised to play the role of hero again Friday night in Florida.

But Everblades goalie John Muse wouldn't allow it.

Muse made several big saves in overtime - none bigger than his block of Lampe's wraparound bid - and Florida's Matt Marquardt scored the winning goal a few minutes later to secure the Everblades' 4-3 comeback victory and 2-1 series lead in the ECHL Kelly Cup Finals in front of 6,822 at Germain Arena in Estero.

Capitalizing on a Las Vegas turnover at the blue line, Marquardt beat Joe Fallon with a wrist shot at 13:49 of overtime after taking a pass from Bobby Raymond on a 2-on-1.

"It was just a tough overtime goal," Wranglers assistant coach Rob Pallin said. "It's too bad it went to overtime. It shouldn't have."

Florida tied it 3-3 with 3:49 left in regulation, when Matt Beca zipped a pass in front to Justin Shugg, who hit the puck into an open net.

"We had control of the game in the first and second periods. In the third period, we kind of laid back a little and they ended up scoring," Pallin said. "We had several opportunities in overtime to win it. We just couldn't bury the puck."

Muse stopped 32 of 35 shots, including a couple of strong bids by Adam Miller in overtime - when Las Vegas outshot Florida 7-6 - but his save on Lampe stung the most for the Wranglers.

"We thought his wraparound was going to be a goal," Pallin said. "By the angle (Muse) had and the way (Lampe) wrapped it around, we thought it was going to be a goal."

Shrugging off a 7-2 loss at home in Game 2 and a 1-0 deficit after the first period Friday, the Wranglers took control in the second period, outshooting the Everblades 14-6 and outscoring them 3-1.

Adam Huxley and Scott Campbell scored in the first 2:08 to give Las Vegas a 2-1 lead. Huxley banged home a loose puck at the 27-second mark to end Florida's streak of eight straight goals, and Campbell buried a rebound of a shot by Pete MacArthur for his team-leading eighth playoff goal.

The Everblades tied it 70 seconds later, when Ryan McGinnis took a pass in the slot from Brandon MacLean and beat Fallon, who turned away 30 of 34 shots.

The Wranglers regained the lead with 46 seconds left in the second, when Judd Blackwater punched a loose puck past Muse on the power play.

Las Vegas killed all four Florida power plays after the Everblades went 3-for-9 with the man advantage in Game 2.

"We responded very well," Pallin said. "The guys really battled. It was a very even game. Anybody could've won it. I thought we deserved to win this game."

The Everblades improved to 9-0 at home in the playoffs, while the Wranglers fell to 7-2 on the road.

Games 4 and 5 of the best-of-7 series are scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday in Florida, with Game 6, if necessary, set for Friday in Las Vegas.

"We're going to win one down here and bring it back to Vegas for Game 6," Pallin said.

■ NOTES - Wranglers coach Ryan Mougenel was unavailable for comment. He was fined an undisclosed amount Friday as a result of published comments he made that were critical of the officiating in Game 2. … Florida forward Leigh Salters was fined an undisclosed amount as a result of his actions in Game 2, when he received a minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct and a 10-minute misconduct for attacking Fallon.

Mecca Blast anniversary: Hyderabad Muslims demand action against Police - twocircles.net

By Mohd. Ismail Khan, TwoCircles.net,

Hyderabad: On the occasion of fifth anniversary of Mecca masjid bomb blast, Muslim leaders in Hyderabad demanded speedy trial of the blast case involving saffron culprits, and closure of fabricated cases against Muslim youths. NIA should make serious endeavors to nab Ramchandran Kalsangra and Sandeep Dange, RSS activists who planted bomb in the mosque and are presently absconding. These demands were made at the lone protest meeting organized in the city by Majlis Bachaoo Tehreek (MBT) to mark five years of the agony and pain.

MBT leader Amjadullah Khan addressing the meeting held on the occasion of 5th anniversary of Mecca Masjid blast on 18th May 2012 in Hyderabad

The program was convened by MBT leader and councilor Amjedullah Khan and presided by Adam Malik, president of MBT. The program was attended by many Muslim intellectuals and political leaders, and some of the victims of
police harassment also spoke on the occasion.

Imraan Khan, Ibrahim Ali Junaid, Mohd Rayeesuddin, Abdul Raheem -- Muslim youths arrested by the task force after the blast and spent nearly 2 years in jail for no fault of theirs -- spoke in the protest meeting. They said the situation which they went through after the blast is going to affect their life forever. In their speeches they showed their anguish on Hyderabad police for targeting them for no fault of theirs. Those Muslim youths demanded strict action against the police officers who destroyed their life. Every one of them ending their speeches thanked Muslims of Hyderabad and Muslim leaders for supporting them when the nation declared them as terrorists.

Convener of the protest meeting Amjedullah Khan said, “government have accepted their mistake and gave halfhearted apology, but still fake cases against Muslim youths are being continued in different police stations in the name of different conspiracies. This double standard of A.P government should end, this all is happening even when there is strong Muslim leadership in Hyderabad. Police has easily targeted and arrested hundreds of Muslim youths, but doesn’t have guts to arrest the real culprits and masterminds of the blast. Swami Aseemanand in his confessional statement named top RSS functionaries like Ram Madhvan as conspirators but police have not yet even questioned them, this double standard of security agencies should end.”

President of Wahdat-e-Islami Maulana Naseeruddin, whose two sons were arrested after masjid blast and now presently are in Indore prison said, “Muslims are not terrorists, they are being terrorized, in every major bomb blast in this country including Mecca Masjid. There is a hand of RSS. Police should do its duty in impartial manner, rather than just targeting only Muslim youths.”

Aziz Pasha CPI leader and former member of Rajya Sabha while addressing the meeting said, “Even after five years of the blast the perpetrators are still absconding. If in the beginning police had taken the investigation in right direction the activists of right wing groups the real culprits could have been in jail, but police in this case from the beginning has targeted only innocent Muslim youths.”

Lateef Mohd Khan, general secretary of Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee in his speech stressed on the government to make public Advoate Ravichander report on illegal detention and police torture. He said “Even after five years government is not serious in providing justice to Muslims. If government had been serious they would have taken strict action against those police officers involved in targeting innocent Muslim youths and saving the real terrorists.”

Kodand Ram Reddy, chairman of Telanagana Political JAC also spoke on the occasion. In his speech he taunted the police for their negative and biased role in the whole episode of blast. He said, “with the actions of the police after blast like police firing on innocent people, and its subsequent blast investigation where scores of innocent Muslims were picked up it is clear that police has acted in prejudice manner. Government should take serious action against those police officials, and should take steps to punish the real culprits of the blast.”

Aamir Ali Khan, news editor of Siasat Urdu daily said, “Quran teaches Muslims to be peaceful, a true Muslim can never be a terrorist. Government and its police force has acted in biased manner and accused Muslims of something which is against the basic tenets of Islam.”

Others who also spoke on the occasion were P. Madhu, CPI(M) leader and former member of parliament, Hamed Mohd Khan, leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, Major Ghouse Quadri from Help Hyderabad, Mohd Iftekharuddin of Muslim Reservation Front, Mujahed Hashmi of Awami Majlis-e-Amal and others.

Friday prayers in Mecca Masjid and other mosques in the city passed off peacefully; there was heavy police force deployment in the whole city. No untoward incidents have been reported in Hyderabad.
