What is RSS?

THEY have trained for more than 100 gruelling hours to perfect a routine fit for the Queen.

These Royal Navy sailors will be part of history when they take part in ceremonial duties to mark the Diamond Jubilee.

Sailors of all ranks have been busy training at HMS Collingwood in Fareham to play a vital role in both the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on Sunday, June 3 and the Diamond Jubilee thanksgiving service on Tuesday, June 5.

After the Queen has sailed down the Thames in the royal barge, Spirit of Chartwell, she will be greeted by our sailors onboard HMS President.

Once there, nearly 30 Royal Navy Reservists will perform an Honour Guard to the Queen and the Royal Party will view the 1,000-strong flotilla of vessels taking part in the spectacular Pageant, in scenes not seen for more than 300 years.

Just days later on Tuesday, June 5 to mark the final day of the Diamond Jubilee weekend, 120 sailors of all ranks and experience will play an important role in the national service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral.

The Queen will have lunch at Westminster Hall before following a route from Westminster to B u c k i n g h a m Palace, lined with thousands of well-wishers before a 60-gun salute at Buckingham Palace, an RAF flypast and a Feu de Joie by The Queen’s Guard.

Sailors who have spent four weeks training at HMS Collingwood will join the other services to line the steps into St Paul’s Cathedral as well as the processional route for the Queen’s arrival and departure.

State ceremonial training officer Paul Barker, said: “The D i a m o n d J u b i l e e events are the icing on the cake. I’ve served 34 years in the Navy. Last year, I did the Royal Wedding and thought that would be the best achievement, but this is far better. Any event you do where sailors are in full uniform on the streets so the public can see sailors rather than troops on parade has got to be a bonus.”

He added: “It means a lot to each one. They are very proud to be doing this. I believe it will be something they remember forever. I certainly will.”

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan claims manager Roberto Martinez has been made an offer by managerless Liverpool but will await a further meeting before making his decision.

The Latics boss met with Liverpool's principal owner John Henry in Miami on Thursday to talk about the vacant Anfield job after interrupting a family holiday in the Caribbean. Whelan said that Martinez - who would be expected to work under a technical director - wanted to negotiate a greater degree of control of footballing issues.

"I think what he has said is, 'Thank you for your offer but I only work under the following rules: I have to have complete control of football'," Whelan told Sky Sports News. "That's normally the way in England, that's how we all work. I think they're considering his request and Roberto's considering their offer and they're going to talk again on Tuesday."

He added: "Hopefully he stays with us but wherever he goes, he's 100% dedicated to that football club."

Liverpool have declined to comment on Whelan's claims.

It was anticipated the process of finding a replacement for Kenny Dalglish would have picked up pace next week with Henry and chairman Tom Werner likely to travel to England.

Martinez remains the favourite with the bookmakers, although that could have something to do with the fact he is the only contender publicly confirmed as being in the running.

Former Porto and Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas appears to have dropped out of the reckoning but it has been reported the Reds have not ruled out a second approach for Swansea's Brendan Rodgers after he declined their initial invitation to open preliminary talks.

Whelan, who set his manager a deadline of June 5 to decide his future, said on Thursday he was not convinced Martinez would take the Liverpool job because of the structure under which he would be expected to work.

Former Wigan and Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland believes the Spaniard would regret not seizing the opportunity should it arise. "What he'll be thinking to himself is: 'Will I get this opportunity again?'" said the 31-year-old, who had three seasons under Martinez at Wigan before agreeing a move to Sheffield Wednesday this week.



Tacoma woman gets $40,500 in animated 'Wheel of Fortune' win - Tacoma News Tribune

The TV footage was almost two months old, but the fist-pumping squeal from Tacoma’s Devan Lawrence looked fresh enough. It’s hard to contain the joy of winning $40,500.

Lawrence, a winning contestant on TV’s “Wheel of Fortune,” finally got a chance to see herself Friday night, though she’d known the outcome since April 3, when the show was taped in Portland.

Her family and friends rented the TV theater at the Varsity Grill in Tacoma and hooted at every moment. Her co-workers at Nordstrom, knowing Friday was broadcast day, chanted the show’s opening cheer (“Wheel … of … Fortune!”) when she arrived for her shift.

“I’m so embarrassed,” she said in an interview Friday. “I never got to see it until now, until tonight. I don’t really remember even calling letters.”

She was stuck in second place for most of the show, but a little run of puzzle-solving and unlucky spins by fellow contestants opened the door for a comeback. She won the game’s toss-up contest with a quick guess on a local landmark (Mount Hood). That was worth $3,000. Lawrence danced a happy dance. The final round was another quick guess. The phrase was “LET’S CALL IT A DAY.” That solution pushed her into first place with $10,500, and sent the other contestants packing.

The final puzzle was a seven-letter word. It started with BL and ended with ER. Lawrence sang out a guess: “Blogger.” That was it. Longtime host Pat Sajak revealed a card with the final prize: an additional $30,000.

On the broadcast, Lawrence’s family members and friends swarmed her as the studio music played.

“I don’t remember that, laughing and dancing, I don’t remember that at all,” she said.

She said she plans to be smart with the money. She’s still figuring out the cut from taxes.

She has toyed with buying an 1980s Volkswagen camper. The one luxury she’s set on is an iPhone.

“I’ve never had an iPhone in my life,” she said. “But other than that I’m gonna save it. I’ve got a car that’s paid off. For now I’m just gonna be smart with it, put away at least $20,000 in an account I can’t even access.”

Dean: I would have dismissed Tevez - Football

Referee Mike Dean has revealed he would have sent off Carlos Tevez if he had been afforded a full view of the clash between the Manchester City striker and QPR midfielder Joey Barton on the final day of the Premier League season.

Barton was on Wednesday handed a 12-match ban for his dismissal and violent reaction at the Etihad Stadium on May 13, when City beat QPR 3-2 to win their first league title for 44 years. QPR have since said that Barton, now the subject of an investigation by his club following the incident, would not appeal against that decision.

Later, the Football Association published the full report by the independent regulatory commission into the case. Tevez appeared to strike out at Barton initially, and Dean, via video link, told the regulatory commission that it was a red-card offence which had gone unnoticed.

In the report, which is signed by commission chairman B.M Jones, it is stated that: "Mr Dean was questioned about the 'Tevez' incident for which Mr Barton was dismissed. It was confirmed that neither the referee nor the assistant saw the alleged incident of Mr Tevez striking Mr Barton although Mr Barton immediately made representations to Mr Dean that is what happened, and such comments by Mr Barton can be clearly seen in the video.

"The commission accept that Mr Barton was aggrieved by the action of Mr Tevez and Mr Dean confirmed that had the incident been seen by the officials as shown by the clip supplied by Mr Barton, it would have been an automatic red card.

"The commission find that this does not however excuse the subsequent action by Mr Barton in relation to Messrs Kompany or Aguero."

Barton receives strong criticism in the report for his assault on Aguero, which the commission, which included former Chelsea defender Paul Elliott, said could have caused "serious injury" to the player who went on to score the title-winning goal.

"The commission considered the 'Aguero' incident was a cold and calculated attack from behind Mr Aguero," the report states.

"It was deliberate and the absolute anger etched in Mr Barton's face, is most clearly seen in the videos. It was premeditated and without any provocation and could easily have caused Mr Aguero injury and maybe have put him out of the rest of the game.

"Fortunately he did not suffer any serious injury but he must have been taken very much by surprise and shocked which could have affected his game. The incident was watched by millions of people on television and Mr Barton really had no option other than to admit his guilt and he did so. No great credit can be, or was, given for the admission in this regard."

Barrett attacks Walker for causing 'civil war' in state - Green Bay Press-Gazette

Democratic Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, down in the polls to Gov. Scott Walker, aggressively went after Walker in a debate Friday and accused him of purposefully dividing the state and triggering the June 5 recall election.

Barrett kept Walker on the defensive throughout much of the hour-long debate in Milwaukee, which was broadcast live statewide just 11 days before the election. Walker is only the nation's third governor to ever stand for recall. The previous two, most recently California Gov. Gray Davis in 2003, were defeated.

Polls show a tight race, with Walker holding a narrow lead within the margin of error of two publicly released polls within the past 10 days.

Walker, who defeated Barrett in 2010 by 5 points to win election as governor, was targeted for recall after successfully passing a law last year that effectively ended collective bargaining for most public workers.

Barrett said that proposal, which sparked massive protests for weeks and made Wisconsin the center of a national debate of worker rights, tore the state apart. Walker said his measure, which also forced most workers to pay more for pensions and health insurance, was needed to help deal with a $3.6 billion state budget deficit.

"You decided to use a budget crisis to try and divide and conquer this state," Barrett said, speaking directly to Walker as the two stood near each other behind podiums in a television studio. "That's what happened. That's what led to all of this. And you succeeded. You succeeded in dividing this state."

Walker said he was focused on moving the state forward and didn't want to relive the past.

"Going back and rehashing the same debate we had last year as my opponent wants to do is not the way to move forward," Walker said. "We're turning things around. We're headed in the right direction."

But Barrett said Walker was determined to wage an "ideological civil war" and punish his enemies, most notably unions that have traditionally backed Democratic candidates.

"I will end this civil war," Barrett said. "That is something the people of this state want."
