"Good art shouldn't instruct, it should evoke." Linda Ronstadt
Graceland was released in 1985 when I was three years old. I don't know when my mom bought that familiar casette, but I do know I was born in 1982 and I don't remember my life without that album and Paul Simon. We listened to it on endless repeat. When I was older, I dubbed my mom's tape so I could listen to it in my room and on my walkman. I still go through phases where the album is all I listen to, and sometimes I'll put the title song on repeat and listen to it endlessly. I've owned the album on tape, CD (twice), and MP3, and I'll never be without it.
Lately, I've been unsettled mentally and emotionally. I'm a writer by trade, but I've realized that writer's block is real and it can be crippling when combined with unexpected tragedies and jarring emotional events. Paul Simon was going through something similar when he traveled to South Africa because he loved the music. Like Mr. Simon, I'm going through a divorce. Like Mr. Simon, I felt like I've been in a downward spiral. I'm starving for inspiration.
So I put on Graceland. And the title track started. Paul Simon called it his favorite record. He said it was perfect, and I have to agree with him.
So follow me over the fold and let's discuss the perfect song from a perfect album.
Proposed NCTC attack on nation's federal structure: RSS - New Kerala
New Delhi, May 19 : The UPA-II government has attacked the states' rights and the nation's federal structure through the proposed National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC), according to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
It expressed concern at the recent spurt in Maoist activities.
The Centre has escaped from its responsibilities by saying that it is states' duty to take action on internal security, according to the latest editorial in the RSS mouthpiece 'Panchajanya'.
"The UPA government, which has failed on all the fronts, is trying to put on the states the responsibility to fight against Naxals." The RSS pointed out that Maoists launched an attack on the residence of Chhattisgarh Women and Child Development Minister Lata Usendi at Kondagaon and killed a security guard on Thursday.
Earlier, the Naxals had kidnapped Sukma Collector Alex Paul Menon in Chhattisgarh and a MLA and two Italian tourists in Orissa.
"The recent incidents show that the Naxals have become a serious threat to the internal security of the country. But some 'secular advisors' of the Central government are encouraging the Naxals," the RSS said.
It alleged that the Centre lacks political will to fight against the Naxals which has led the situation that one third of the country's districts have been affected by the rebels. (UNI)

"We can grow just about anything," said Margo True, Food Editor for Sunset Magazine, adding that everybody loves tomatoes "ripened on the vine, still warm from the sun."
Inside the latest Sunset Edible Garden cookbook you'll find fresh, healthy and simple recipes, focusing on 20 crops that are easy to grow in a backyard .
True said more people are getting in touch with their green thumbs and discovering how rewarding it is to harvest their own food.
Not only is homegrown produce delicious, it can be economical. So, instead of buying costly organic mixed greens and herbs -- try growing them.
True said there is also a personal gratification when you grow your own food.

Christians, RSS converting Muslims’ Boycott Ahmadiyas for conversions: Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind - Times of India
In a resolution adopted at the end of its two-day conference here, JuH accused Ahmadiyas along with Christians and RSS of trying to convert Muslims.
"Preachers of Qadyani and Christian missionaries are trying to convert poor Muslims by offering them a better life. They mostly lure them in the net woven of the dreams of better job opportunities, health facility, cash and easy loan," the resolution said.
Ahmadiyas or Qadyanis have been declared apostates in Pakistan, and face persecution and violence, with Sunni hardliners targeting them. Many of them have been killed in a wave of targeted killings. Ahmadiyas or Qadyanis, who face persecution also in Indonesia, are called so after the founder of their sect Mirza Ghulam Ahmed who was born in Qadian in undivided Punjab. They see the founder as a mujaddid. Although they claim that they don't dispute the Islamic view about Mohammad being the last Prophet, the Sunnis have argued that their belief in Ahmed being the reformer disputes that Mohammad was the last Prophet.
JuH also sought steps to expel Qadyani from state waqf boards. Citing RSS attempts to convert Muslims, JuH said, "Few days ago, it was learnt that some Muslim youths joined it for spiritual peace."
"Christian missionaries are organizing programmes to defame the Prophet of Islam. Some channels are teaching Bible in the name of Holy Quraan. They are spreading hatred and misconceptions about the Islamic Shariyah," the resolution said.
"So-called spiritual movements with deceiving tactics, employing Islamic and Sufi terms are attracting people in the name of teaching art of life... due to lack of knowledge some people get deceived," it added.
The imams stressed on the need to confront such movements "with full preparation".
