Members of the anarchist group Strike Everywhere marched, and often ran, through the streets of Lower Manhattan the afternoon of May 1st in a event promoted online as the "Wildcat March". There were several physical assaults on photographers, sometimes involving attempts to steal cameras, or coat lenses (and faces) with ink or paint. Photographs and video clips sometimes wind up in prosecutors' cases, although they are often valuable to defense attorneys as well. The relationship between a militant segment of the anarchist community and members of the media is contentious, even as some independent photographers occasionally relate to their subjects' disdain for hierarchy and authority.
